History of the Panerai Luminor Firenze PAM00605
In 2014, Panerai unveiled a very limited Special Edition exclusively distributed from the Panerai Firenze boutique in Italy.
Created in both Q and R series and limited to 99 pieces each, the Panerai Luminor 1950 Firenze PAM00605 has become one of the statement Special Editions that Panerai have created in their modern era. Similar to the 100th Anniversary Limited Editions from the Firenze Boutique in 2005, the PAM605 displays "Firenze" on the dial, a subtlety that has become an indication of Special Editions exclusively available through that boutique.
Admiring the Dial on the PAM00605
The first thing your eyes are drawn to is the incredible anthracite sunburst dial, with every part of it shimmering in a different fashion depending on the lighting. Being a sandwich dial with printed, sunken text, the layout gives a layered dynamic, adding further character. It's the only 47mm Luminor with this colour and type of dial.
It still remains to be a super legible and simple layout, but even the added "Firenze" text adds a little touch that implies scarcity.
The Panerai 1950 case
The modern Luminor 1950 comes in a 47mm case that's steeped in history, marking a key transition. While it keeps the classic Luminor traits, this model introduces a special case design. It's got a rounded, cusp-shaped caseband that seems to nod to the cushion form of the earlier Radiomir (thin wire lug) case.
Taking a closer look, you'll notice some neat details that tie this model to a handful of super rare historic examples. These include the slimmer lugs, the engraving of reference details between the lugs, a classy sapphire domed crystal, and a flat back proudly displaying "Officine Panerai" and "Brevettato" engravings.
Powered by the P.3000 Movement
The PAM605 houses the formidable P.3000 movement, which uses two spring barrels to manually power the watch for 3 days. This movement presents the main characteristics of the Panerai movements in terms of structure and robustness, accuracy and power reserve, and is known to be incredibly reliable.
The PAM605 has to be my favourite sunburst dial Panerai!
In conclusion, this reference ticks all the box in terms of its scarcity, design and importance. Instantly recognisable as a special edition to those that know, beautifully executed with its anthracite sunburst dial and domed sapphire crystal and finally carrying excellent provenance being a rare Special Edition created exclusively for distribution through the Firenze Boutique in Florence, Italy.
It looks superb on the wrist too!
